Roadtrip 2019 Fall: Vancouver - Richland - Twin Falls - Provo - Kanab - Yucca Valley - Paso Robles - Sacramento - Brookings - Yachats - Cannon Beach - Vancouver

Day 31 - Gooseberry Mesa

We did not expect to encounter these crazy beehive shaped rock formations.

Foliage, roots and rocks tangle.

The South Rim features a badlands of slickrock.

The Black Helicopters are back at it, looking for us.  We hid in a cave.  This is as close as they got today.

From the slickrock caps – we can see all the way to the peaks of Zion National Park.

Russ assesses our directional choices.

Bonsai in slickrock.

The World-Famous Eye in the Rock.

The caves are worth seeking out.

The team on the out-run of slickrock.  That's Zion in the background.

We hurtle towards the North Rim for views of the Virgin River canyon and Zion.

Looking into the Virgin River Valley.

We are really on the edge here! No safety rails or warnings – you're on your own! View is towards Zion Park.

The cutest little barrel cacti grow in circular bunches up here on the Gooseberry.

Sun dog it! Plus a cloudy sky to boot! No Utah blue today.

The Virgin River is down there somewhere, along with a couple of towns, the major highway into Zion and millions of ATVs.  This is as close as I can get to a 3000 foot drop.

We've been seeing these large, bat-winged aircraft at dusk for days.  They seem to have some kind of dark-energy ground-scanning equipment.
